A plant-filled hillside garden

As my clients were extending their townhouse with a contemporary triangular glass extension, my role was to create a smooth transition from the strong geometry of the building to a softer verdant outdoor space.
To complement the strong architecture of the extension, a minimalist Japanese approach has been applied near the house. The lower terrace is treated as an extension to the vast kitchen/dining room: a generous space to push tables and chairs outside, a water sculpture and a plant theatre to be enjoyed whatever the weather. The upper terrace is home to the main outdoor dining area and a zen garden, and as you ascend through the garden, the planting becomes wilder.
